Amazonia & the Spiritual Being

Amazonia & the Spiritual Being © Pablo Amaringo

"We want to contribute to the conservation of the rainforest... the silent, beautiful factories, producers of oxygen, food, medicine, living things beyond numbers. We, the jungle people, see well and understand the bounty.

Making a painting is a way of seeing; the students learn to express themselves by looking at things. That is what I teach; that is all I teach.

Art is like recreating the world, every sheet of paper has tremendous possibility. First you start with a blank sheet of paper and when you are ready, you separate light from dark, the sky from the earth, the earth from the water. Then you paint the plants, animals and human beings. In that order."

Follow the arrows for my tour or use the navigator to go directly to the sections. First we will visit the school. We will see photos of the schoolhouse, teachers and students. I will take you to my studio to see & talk about one of my visionary paintings.

Our bio alblums have portraits and biographies of many of the students. You can review our history and see our exhibition list, affiliations and publications. Learn the meaning of the Usko Ayar logo.

Sit in on some of my lessons. We will discuss biodiversity, ethnobotany, and sustainable development. I will show you some plants that are used in medicine. Some plants are being researched by the National Institute of Health for possible cures for cancer.

I will take you on a tour of the area. You will see our marina and go for a river trip to San Francisco to meet the Shipibo Indians. We will hike into the jungle.

There is so much to see and so much to do. OK...let's begin. Come on' ... follow the arrows for the tour."
